Along with the holidays, come the family and social gatherings. For some people, these gatherings are fun, joyful events that they are very much looking forward to attending. For others, it is a dreaded event. If it is something that you dread, think about why you feel that way. Is it because of an old hurt inflicted by someone?
Our mind is one of the very few things that we actually have control over. Negative thinking can be changed. While we don’t have control over other people’s behavior, the taxes we are charged, the weather and hundreds of other things, we do have control over our thoughts which influence how we feel.
My husband and I enjoy going to Disney World. One of the things we know about visiting central Florida during the summer, is that it is very hot and humid. Along with that comes the almost daily mid-afternoon thunderstorms. They typically roll out as quickly as they came in and then the sunshine once again returns.
While recently watching a popular movie with my grandchildren, there was one scene where the children are encouraging their single father to begin dating. He tried to brush off their questions and suggestions and replied that he was not going to be dating anyone. Then the youngest daughter asked, “Why not, are you scared?”
